Easy Homemade Southern Style Biscuits - Recipe

What can I say? I’m from the South and I love biscuits and gravy. This biscuit recipe makes biscuits that are perfect for gravy. They remind me of a “grandmother recipe”.

Ingredients:
2 cups self rising flour (if using all purpose - add 4 teaspoons baking powder, 1/4 teaspoon baking soda, 3/4 teaspoon salt)
2 tablespoons butter
2 tablespoons shortening
1 cup buttermilk chilled (if using regular milk add 1-2 teaspoons of vinegar)

Directions:
Heat oven to 400*
Pour flour in a large mixing bowl
Using gloved hands - mix the butter and shortening into the flour until it resembles a crumb texture
- Be careful not to over-mix or the fats will melt. If you do not have gloves, mix quickly with 2 forks
Form a small hole in the center of the mixture and dump in the milk
Quickly mix with a wooden spoon just until the dough comes together

Turn the dough over onto a floured surface
Fold the dough onto itself a few times, be careful not to work the dough too much
Roll the dough until it is 1 inch thick and cut biscuits using a 2 inch cutter.

Place biscuits on a baking sheet just so they touch and bake 15 to 20 minutes until biscuits are golden on top.

Remove and Enjoy ;)
